So Gerry Molloy says
'why don't we do something in the Old Ground Hotel this year?' and a couple of phone calls, a few chance meetings in assorted pubs and coffee shops and it looked like something special was going to happen...
Practically the entire Ginger Jam Music roster would appear on one stage for one night only, if only Snowdial could have made it all the way down from Dublin we would have had the set. Maybe next time?
A month in the making, with posters, ads, promos and word of mouth, the most eagerly awaited gig finally came together in one glorious night of
fabulous music. Only a few hours behind schedule for the setup, so it was bang on time in Clare terms.
Bravely being the first to go over the top that night,
The Buzzmonkeys kick-started the show and provided a very warm welcome to the many arrivals as the house began to fill up.
Pete and the lads played their usual stormer and laid down the standard for the
night, taking the opportunity to air some of their new material from their forthcoming album. Ironically finishing up their all-too-brief set with 'It Ain't Over Yet', they took no
prisoners and showed them all how to keep Ennis safe for rock 'n' roll.

Next up were Trevor Hansbury's newest creation - T'n'T, with Trevor 'n' Tim. Nobody quite knew what to expect, but they absolutely nailed me to the wall with their astonishing sonic attack of the very essence
of rock history distilled and concentrated into one oh-so-short gig .
Was that really the last bit of the solo from Child In Time that slipped in there?
Trevor and the boys will be taking T'n'T to your town soon, so watch out for them!
Back from the wilds of Lahinch and Cappahard, Kohima
next strode into the breech, to mellow things down a bit with their sophisticated blend of rock and psychedelia, ably assisted by Bushplant's Joe on bass, Mary on accordian and Andy on drums.
Kohima really do melt in the mind, yet with a pursuasive rock groove that had them all up dancing.
Finally the night was wound up with Bushplant, who are always guaranteed to send them home sweating
Bushplant pulled out all the old favourites for the night that was in it, including a rip-roaring On A
Ramble, a personal favourite of mine, so that made my night. Thanks to so many for making this wonderful night happen - Chris from
Clare Sounds for the sound and
lighting and strong arms, Barry for lending an ear on sound, Diane's soggy boots on the door, Kev at Death Trap Design for the posters, Isaac for trudging around in the rain putting them up, Clare Champion
and Clare People for the many mentions, Frank Hayes for viral email, Clare Event Guide, the staff of the Old Ground Hotel for putting up with the noise, all the brilliant musicians who made it all possible, and
of course poor old Andy Palfreyman who managed to play 3 gigs in one night! |
